February is National Heart Health Month! When we think about heart health, we picture charts filled with cholesterol levels, blood pressure readings, and exercise guidelines. Beyond the facts lies a deeper story on how lifestyle and social connections contribute to a healthy heart. From stress to the power of community, this blog post will share practical tools to help support a healthier, happier you.

Mind-Heart Connection
Stress affects us all, but managing it effectively is key to keeping your heart healthy. Chronic stress, anxiety, and depression can raise your blood pressure, increase inflammation, and lead to unhealthy coping mechanisms. Incorporating stress-reduction techniques into your daily routine can improve your overall well-being. Here are some methods that support a healthy heart:
Move with Purpose: Yoga and Tai Chi are gentle, low-impact forms of exercise that combine physical movement with mindfulness and controlled breathing. These practices improve flexibility while lowering cortisol levels (the stress hormone).

A social community can be friends, family members, coworkers, or even a social group. Increased laughter and social connection lowers anxiety, reduce risks of dementia, and releases positive stress hormones, which improves circulation.
You can improve social connections by:
- Cultivating meaningful relationships and making time for loved ones
- Scheduling catch-ups via lunch dates, Facetimes, or phone calls
- Trying a new hobby or sport
- Joining a social group, workout class, or community
- Finding volunteering opportunities
